Tom Edgington is a senior reporter at BBC Verify, the BBC’s forensic journalism unit, where he unpicks claims and tests them against the facts.
He specialises in political fact-checking and public policy, reporting across television, radio, and digital platforms.
In October 2025, he will move to Washington DC for a month-long posting, reporting on politics and policy from the American capital.
In 2024–25, he was a Reuters Fellow at Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, where he researched how fact-check journalism influences political behaviour.
He regularly gives talks and presentations on his findings and the wider fact-checking industry.
Previously, Tom was an editor, reporter, and producer at BBC Radio 4, working on flagship news programmes including The World at One and PM.
Born and raised in Winchester, Hampshire, Tom holds degrees from the universities of York and Bath.
Outside journalism, he is an avid runner and enjoys playing cricket and golf.
